Ergonomics
Ergonomics
- is about fitting work to people
- will prevent workplace injuries
- improves productivity
Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging workplaces, tools
and work procedures so that they fit the people who use them.
An ergonomic study takes into consideration such things as:
- body sizes and shapes
- what muscles are used for each task
- how high or low the task has to be performed in relation to the body
- how much force has to be applied
- environmental factors (noise, light, heat, cold, radiation, vibration)
- body senses (hearing, vision, touch)
- skill level required
- how easy the task is to learn
- how much room for error (tolerance)
An ergonomic study requires consultation with the people who may have
to use the tools and work procedures that need to be developed or changed.
Ergonomics aims to develop a comfortable, safe and productive work system.

work station.
Ron Atkinson Workplace Training & Assessment is available
to carry out ergonomic studies in your workplace and make recommendations.
