Emergency Planning
Emergency
Planning
- saves lives
- is a key responsibility in OH&S "Duty of Care" or "Obligation"
- is common sense
Because of the types of work undertaken in many workplaces, there is
a potential for emergencies to occur. This necessitates the development
of plans to deal with these emergencies to minimise the chances of people
being harmed and property being damaged. All plans developed should be
fully documented. Employees and visitors should be familiarised with the
emergency procedures they will need to follow should the situation arise
(see Safety Training and Safety
Induction).
In developing emergency plans, the following factors should be addressed;
- Identify the type of emergencies
- Emergency equipment
- Training
- Assign responsibilities
- Accounting for personnel
- Treatment of injuries
- Review process
